CASA PRIMEIRA - Portugal

Stay: Casa Primeira

Location: Vila do Bispo, Portugal

Casa Primeira - A home away from home in the quiet village of Vila Do Bispo

In the heart of Vila Do Bispo, a quiet village tucked into the Algarve, sits Casa Primera. Drawn in by its sky blue shutters and white facade, south facing and basking in sunlight. We knew we had to book this little house for a stay.

Every detail here feels intentional, a true testament to Ana & Pedro’s architectural designed led vision for this home from home. The plaque outside, the way the sunlight casts patterned shadows across the facade. The details that make you pause, look up and appreciate more than just the endless blue sky above.

Inside, the sense of the care continues. Casa primeira’s 344 square feet are used with precision and creativity, making every inch count. Terracotta floor tiles, soft neutral plastered walls, light washed oak cabinetry, and locally sourced textiles in oranges and blues set the tone.

The location, close to some of the Algarve’s most beautiful beaches and surf spots is subtly woven into the interiors. A rattan coffee table holds a stack of local surf magazines, and the artwork nods to the coastline just minutes away. You can also find a copy of ‘Observador’ and read through the Casa Primera article.

The palette feels both energising and restful. Inviting you to relax whilst still feeling connected to the vibrancy of the Algarve. I was pleased to have my orange tote bag and flip flops in tow, taking their place on the hooks by the door. Matching the interior perfectly and making the visit just like home.

Another architectural detail is the alternating tread staircase. Leading to the mezzanine bedroom, where soft teal striped linen and tapestry above the bed echo the colours downstairs. A skylight pours in the sunshine, whilst the half-height wall, built with a pattern of open triangles, offers a playful glimpse down to the living space below. A round cut out in the wall, allows the light from the doorway to flood in, a view point from the bottom of the stairs, and a spot to peak through.

One of my favourite spots is the window seat. Cleverly designed to be both functional and cosy. It’s perfect for reading, eating, or simply gazing out over the street. Breakfast here, a simple bowl of granola, peaches from the market, and natural yoghurt - felt like the perfect way to start the day. Even more so in the beautiful ceramics provided by Casa Primeira.

The bench seat outside - An irresistible detail. Framed by those iconic blue shutters and dressed with rust toned cushions, it’s calling out for you to sit down. Whether for an evening drink or a morning coffee. It’s the perfect photo spot, capturing the charm of village life, as you watch Vila Do Bispo either drift into sleep or stir awake.

Casa Primeira is a reminder of how thoughtful design can turn even the smallest of places into something memorable.
